Gemma Hirst
Deputy Head - Inclusion

I am both honoured and delighted to join Handsworth Grange School as Deputy Headteacher responsible for Inclusion, serving both the students and wider community to deliver exceptional education every day.

My career in education began as a Physical Education teacher, where I found immense joy in helping students embrace an active and healthy lifestyle. Over the course of seven years, I've had the privilege of serving in various leadership roles across Sheffield and Barnsley. These roles, across a range of areas of inclusion have equipped me with a profound understanding of the complex needs of students and the importance of creating inclusive and supportive environments.

My journey in education has been marked by a commitment to excellence, from earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Training to achieving a Masters in Teaching and Learning. Beyond my professional achievements, I am deeply passionate about extracurricular activities and run a gymnastics club outside of school. I also love exploring the world through travel. My adventures have taken me to diverse cultures, exposing me to new perspectives and enriching my worldview. I believe that travel broadens the mind and brings fresh insights to the educational sphere.

I can help with:

All areas of inclusion, behaviour, safeguarding, attendance and special educational needs. I am passionate about both the well-being and self-esteem of students and restorative practices.
